Showing all 2 results

Welcome to the extreme world of Pepper X. Guinness World Records officially recognised it as the world’s hottest chilli pepper in October 2023, with an average rating of 2,693,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU). Developed and grown by Ed Currie of the PuckerButt Pepper Company, Pepper X replaced the Carolina Reaper, which averages around 1.64 million SHU. Its record rating was calculated from testing conducted by Winthrop University using pepper samples collected over several years. For comparison, a typical Jalapeño is measured in the low thousands of SHU. Pepper X therefore belongs in a completely different category of heat and is intended only for people with substantial experience of superhot chillies. 2.69 SHU, reinforcing Pepper X’s status at the very top of the superhot chilli category.

At Kafteroulis, this category brings together sauces and specialist products made with Pepper X. The chilli’s extraordinary capsaicin content creates a powerful, persistent burn, but a well-made sauce should also preserve flavour beneath the heat. Depending on the recipe, Pepper X may be combined with fruit, smoke, vinegar, garlic, spices or other peppers to create a more balanced profile. Read every product description carefully because the amount of Pepper X and the overall intensity can vary significantly.

Ed Currie spent more than a decade selectively breeding Pepper X and stabilising the variety before it received official recognition. The pepper’s distinctive wrinkled surface creates more internal area for placenta tissue, where capsaicin is concentrated. Despite its record status, Pepper X should not be treated as a casual challenge. Start with an extremely small amount, follow the label, avoid contact with eyes and skin, wash hands and utensils thoroughly, and keep superhot products away from children and pets.
